As Medicare Open Enrollment approaches in October 2025, I’m often asked, “What would YOU choose?”
Here’s a quick guide to help you understand your options—and what I personally recommend.
Start with Medicare Parts A & B
- Part A (hospital coverage) is free if you worked 10 years.
- Part B (doctor visits, outpatient care) is expected to cost around $185/month in 2025.
Together, they cover 80% of your medical costs—but you’ll need something to cover the remaining 20%.
Options to Cover the Gap
Option 1: Medicare Advantage
- Usually $0 premium
- Includes drug, dental, vision, hearing
- Must stay in-network
- Pay co-pays for services
Option 2: Medicare Supplement (Plan G)
- Premium: $140–$250/month
- One-time deductible: up to $255
- 100% coverage after that
- No network restrictions
- Add-on plans needed for drug, dental, and vision
My Recommendation
I’d choose Part A, Part B, and a Medicare Supplement Plan (Plan G).
Why? Because I want the freedom to choose my doctors, hospitals, and care—without network limits.
